It was a night that started out like any other until he walked by. A man who graciously gave us his time and shared his story. He who grew up knowing Him yet became disillusioned by those who claim to love Him. How sad, for have there not been times where any one of us have not heard the same thing? A friend or a colleague drawn in by His story of grace, love and forgiveness only to be turned away by those who choose to live a lifestyle contrary to the name they say they represent. Through the course of our conversation that night it became clear to me that this man standing before us was never forgotten by Him and I think he never truly forgot what he was taught growing up either. It is my prayer that this particular man be reminded that Him, and Him alone, is the only One who never fails, who never falters, who always loves, who is always there even when we may find ourselves surrounded by no one. Does this man have any friends? Yes, many. Does he have a loving family? I presume so. Did he chose to go out and explore all that the world has to offer? On some level he did. Was he disillusioned by those in the church, unfortunately he was. Yet He never forgot about him. I sometimes wonder if when we are talking to men if they ever connect the dots on how our paths crossed? More than once it has seemed that we talk to men who used to know Him and have walked away, men who have prayed for a ‘sign’ only to be disappointed that they weren’t witness to a miracle, or men who simply have spent a lifetime being pursued and not known it. As my good friend once said “Perhaps God orchestrates the events of an entire city so as to enable us to talk to the one man on His heart – you.”
