A week or two ago we were standing in a Bangkok red-light district asking men if they would like to stop and talk to us. The majority of men just simply walked by without stopping but one man took some time of out his night and so began our conversation with ‘Adam’. Adam is married and was in Bangkok for business and was in that particular area that night on a stroll and taking in the many sights and sounds that were on hand. I find that a lot of men enjoy the curious factor of what a red-light district has to offer. The neon lights can draw your attention in an instant, the loud music and various smells present an atmosphere like no other, the numerous vendors and streets sellers can be overwhelming and the attention from those wanting you to come inside their establishment can be enticing. Some of these factors are what Adam found interesting about the area we all found ourselves in. The more the conversation went on with Adam the more he asked us about who we are and what we do. Our response was quite simple “we are here for men like you”. Men who may be in a red-light district for any number of reasons but who have an opportunity to encounter the love of God. A God who is willing and wanting to pursue men anywhere in the world, even in a place where distractions reign. Even in the midst of all the distractions we were able to be personally relevant and deeply personal. We believe that a moment of vulnerability and a word of truth can forever change a life – no matter what distractions may surround us.
