“God, investigate my life; get all the facts firsthand. I’m an open book to you; even from a distance, you know what I’m thinking. You know when I leave and when I get back; I’m never out of your sight. You know everything I’m going to say before I start the first sentence. I look behind me and you’re there, then up ahead and you’re there, too – your reassuring presence, coming and going. This is too much, too wonderful – I can’t take it all in!”
Psalm 139:1-7
The Message
How wonderful (and sometimes dreadful) it is to know that God knows our every thought and thus must know also how we feel! He knows it even before we can say it. The heart is the center from which all of our thoughts and feelings originate. We can be very creative with our words, our language and our feelings. That can all be very positive. At the same time our hearts are also the control centre of our mind and what we think and feel and which can sometimes be very negative toward ourselves or others.
Proverbs 4:23 says, “Keep vigilant watch over your heart; that’s where life starts.”
It is my hope that you and I learn more about how important our feelings are, but at the same time that we learn to channel all of our thoughts and feelings through the filter of God’s standard, so that we can say “I have learnt and exercised to keep my heart pure.”
