Sometimes we think that living a lifestyle of purity and wholeness would be easier if temptations, lust, etc., would vanish from our daily lives. However, I want to encourage you to see each day as a choice to live a life of proactive pursuit.
If we view each day as the opportunity to passionately desire something, then what we pursue is the determining factor as to whether our thoughts and choices are directed towards something eternal or something more temporal. Some men say that they trudge through life experiencing periodic victories, but I would like to suggest that you could look upon each day as an opportunity to take delight in pursuing purity and wholeness. We can delight in that pursuit because we choose to pursue He who is holy, He who is righteous and He who is pure. How can we do that? I believe it comes down to trust. It means trusting in the promises that He has given us through His Word. It means trusting the truth that He is more fulfilling than the temporary thrill of engaging in sin. It means trusting Him for a way out, as opposed to looking for a way to stay in. How can we build that trust? It comes from delving into His Word and allowing it to transform our character into His likeness more. It comes through times of prayer, allowing His Spirit to work in our hearts and minds. It is in times of committed worship and praising the One who is majestic, holy and worthy of such praise.
May you and I continue to be dissatisfied with short term fixes for periodic struggles, and instead passionately desire a deeper and more intimate relationship with God. As we seek after purity, wholeness, righteousness and holiness, I believe that we will see our lives transformed, our actions reformed, and our hearts renewed.
