“The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned” – Isaiah 9:2
The Christmas season has come and gone again, just as it does year after year. As always, it’s a great reminder for us that we are not able to save ourselves, and that we need a Savior who can help us walk more and more into the light.
When I myself walked in darkness, in a world of sin and selfishness, I knew it was dark. Although I had known the Light for a long time, I chose to walk in darkness and neglect the call to repentance. I knew I was playing with fire and I knew how much I needed the Light, but I lacked the courage to step into it. Fear and shame mastered me.
A couple of years ago, while still walking in this darkness, I found myself at the end of my rope. I just could not do it anymore. I needed to get clean of my sins and I needed to seek out somebody to talk to. God already knew about this, but I needed to begin my first steps back into the Light. It was the month of December. Looking back, I remember how light I felt when I finally confided in someone in whom I could trust to help me walk from darkness into light. He became my confidante – the person I could entrust my story because I felt he understood where I was coming from. Next to the Holy Spirit, he has been the helper in human form who convicted me about coming clean and starting all over again to walk in that radiant light.
We are living in a land of deep darkness, and sometimes our circumstances are dark too. Especially when we are living lies or not speaking the truth about ourselves to God and others. The moments when we think we need to hide our stuff so that nobody sees what we do in the dark. But the Light dawned on us over 2,000 years ago – as was foretold hundreds of years before that by the prophet Isaiah – the Light of the world who would come and bring us closer to God.
“I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” – John 8:12
Have you met that Light already? Or are you still walking in darkness? Come out and start confiding in someone whom you can trust so you can begin to walk into the Light. It is here for you!
