In my Bible I have highlighted Psalm 103:1-5. It says:
“Praise the Lord, my soul; all my inmost being, praise his holy name. Praise the Lord, my soul, and forget not all his benefits—who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion, who satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
I find these verses very encouraging. In fact, in the margin next to these verses I have written,”A good reminder when lies, depression and doubts try to set in my mind.”
We all know that life will have its fair share of ups and downs. In my life I have found it easy to praise God when life is smooth and there are no problems. However, do I think of praising God when life feels like it is spiraling out of control? In my own life I am learning to praise Him in all circumstances regardless of how I feel or what I perceive. I know that when I praise God in the midst of life’s storms, I can avoid getting to a place where my emotions and feelings lead to false presumptions about my circumstances, God’s character, or to unhealthy and unholy actions.
In spite of what may happen on any given day let us praise Him for who He is. God is merciful, holy, righteous, faithful, gracious, loving, and so much more. Let’s praise God because He is more than just some genie or distant power, He is our Lord and He is worthy of such praise.
